Year of birth
[edit]According to French Wikipedia Jacques Villeneuve was born in 1955, while it says here that he was born in 1953. Which year is correct? Dupont och Dupond (talk) 17:11, 4 September 2010 (UTC)
- FORIX and oldracingcars.com both say 1953. DH85868993 (talk) 11:48, 5 September 2010 (UTC)

The result of the move request was: not moved. Jenks24 (talk) 14:00, 19 August 2015 (UTC)
Jacques Villeneuve (elder) → Jacques Villeneuve, Sr. – The same situation as with Carlos Sainz and Carlos Sainz, Jr.. 217.30.195.63 (talk) 17:52, 11 August 2015 (UTC)
- Oppose That is not an analogous situation; this is not a father-son relationship. Jacques Villeneuve (fils) is the nephew of Jacques Villeneuve (elder) (oncle), not the son. He was not adopted as a son, grew up in a different country (Switzerland) than his uncle lived in (Canada), raised by his mother, before returning to Canada. -- 67.70.32.190 (talk) 04:53, 12 August 2015 (UTC)
- Comment do we even have a proper reference for "Sr."? -- 67.70.32.190 (talk) 04:53, 12 August 2015 (UTC)
- Weak Oppose – While the two are noteable drivers, the assumption would be that the younger is a direct descendant of the elder. On the other hand, if it can be referenced, there is no legitimate reason not to move it if there is prose indicating the difference. Twirly Pen (Speak up) 10:57, 12 August 2015 (UTC)
- Oppose Using "Senior" does not seem appropriate given the uncle-nephew relationship. It seems to me that using the birth year convention makes the most sense in this case (eg, something like Jacques Villeneuve (born 1953)). PKT(alk) 12:39, 12 August 2015 (UTC)
- Oppose Senior is generally only used for father-son situations. I actually have both the father-son name sharing, thrice, and the uncle-nephew name sharing variant in my family. Unlike the three father-son cases, my cousin and our uncle are not referred to as junior and/or senior. I can't actually find any source that refers to the elder Jacques Villeneuve as Sr. Tvx1 14:33, 17 August 2015 (UTC)
- Oppose; not father and son. As much as I hate it in principle as a disambiguator, the birth year is probably the most appropriate solution here. Bearcat (talk) 05:35, 18 August 2015 (UTC)
- Oppose: I think "Senior" suggests a father-son relationship. My preference would be either "Jacques Villeneuve (born 1953)" or "Jacques-Joseph Villeneuve" (per the French Wikipedia). DH85868993 (talk) 12:32, 18 August 2015 (UTC)

The result of the move request was: moved to Jacques Villeneuve (racing driver, born 1953). Lugnuts's proposal is more in line with our standard practices and no one has objected to it. Jenks24 (talk) 16:20, 5 September 2015 (UTC)
Jacques Villeneuve (elder) → Jacques Villeneuve (born 1953) – Per the suggestion of several editors in the preceding discussion, also noting that the current disambiguator ("elder") may suggest that he is an elder of some group, which, to the best of my knowledge, he is not. DH85868993 (talk) 11:22, 20 August 2015 (UTC) --Relisted. Natg 19 (talk) 23:21, 27 August 2015 (UTC)
- Rename to Jacques Villeneuve (racing driver, born 1953), for clarity. Lugnuts Dick Laurent is dead 08:35, 29 August 2015 (UTC)

Suggested move (again...)
[edit]Jacques Villeneuve (racing driver, born 1953) → Jacques-Joseph Villeneuve Since, AFAIK, there's not a bunch of Jacques Villeneuves, identifying him as "racing driver" with a year of birth seems a bit unnecessary... TREKphiler any time you're ready, Uhura 20:54, 6 November 2015 (UTC)
- Are there only two Jacques Villeneuves? It really doesn't need to say "racing driver" in that case. Either just (born 1953) or Jacques-Joseph will do, although I'd prefer the former. I've never heard him referred to by his full first name. Bretonbanquet (talk) 22:10, 6 November 2015 (UTC)
- I only know of two. And WP doesn't seem to know of more than that, which may be the bigger issue. I prefer the second, since they're both F1 drivers. TREKphiler any time you're ready, Uhura 23:54, 6 November 2015 (UTC)
- I'd prefer either just (born 1953) or Jacques-Joseph, with a slight preference for the former, per my comments in the previous two discussions. DH85868993 (talk) 06:25, 7 November 2015 (UTC)
- People's articles should always be at "Common Name (disambiguation)" — hunting down an obscure, rarely used and little known middle name as an alternative to parenthetical disambiguation is not an appropriate way around that. For "Jacques-Joseph" to be appropriate as a disambiguator, "Jacques-Joseph" would have to be how he's generally known in the vast majority of all coverage of him that exists. But it isn't, so the only real options here are either the current title or stripping the occupation while leaving the "born 1953" part in. Bearcat (talk) 20:45, 12 January 2016 (UTC)
